ECU Remapping
What is ECU remapping?
ECU stands for Engine Control Unit. Now-a-days, all cars and vans are fitted with an ECU, comparable to a brain of the car. Within this unit, a processor takes in information from various different sensors in the engine, analyses the information, and then releases the right quantity of fuel for the task providing a good mix of fuel economy, performance and emission control for when the car is pulling away, overtaking, motorways and general day –to-day driving. Information analysed includes engine temperature, accelerator pedal angle and oxygen content in the burnt exhaust gas.
Here at Rapid Remaps we read the compromised ECU processing chip and adjust various details within the map to release the true performance.
Benefits of ECU:
With ECU remapping, Improvements can be seen in engine power. It also sharpens throttle response and widens the cars power band; this makes the car livelier to drive as the vehicle power is restricted by the manufacturer to suit all buyers. We take away these restrictions as they may not be wanted.
There is also a reduction in fuel costs; less throttle is needed to maintain motorway speeds. There is also the ability to drive in a higher gear, but at a lower speed to reduce fuel usage.
Depending on engine type; turbocharged diesel engine, turbocharged petrol engine and petrol engine, you can see increased horsepower, increased torque, better throttle, smoother power delivery, improve fuel economy and safer overtaking.
Modification:
When remapping we don’t change the hardware, we simply modify the operating parameters to get the most from your car’s engine.
Always inform your insurance company of any modifications made to your vehicle.
